AbstractCross-dehydrogenativecoupling(CDC),whichenablestheformationofcarbon–carbon(C–C)andC–heteroatombondsfromthedirectcouplingoftwoC–HbondsorC–H/X–Hbonds,representsanewstateoftheartinthe?eldoforganicchemistry.Iron,aprominentmetal,hasalreadyshownitsversatileapplicationinchemicalsynthesis.Thisreviewattemptstoprovideacomprehensiveunderstandingoftheevolutionofcross-dehydrogenativecouplingviaironcatalysis,aswellasitsapplicationinsyntheticchemistry.

1Introduction

Thedevelopmentofselective,ef?cient,sustainable,andenvironmentallybenignsyntheticmethodologiesfortheformationofcarbon–carbon(C–C)andC–heteroatombondsisanareaofgreatinteresttochemists,andonethatisbeingactivelypursued.Carbon–hydrogen(C–H)bondsexistbroadlyinavarietyoforganicmolecules.CatalyticfunctionalizationofC–Hbondshasevolvedasapowerfultoolfororganicsynthesis,whichnotonlyprovidesanatom-economicalternativemethod,butalsoopensnewroutestothetargetmolecules.Thistrendisevidencedbyreportsoftheever-increasingutilizationofC–Hbondsassubstratesforcross-couplingreactions[1–6].Amongreportedmethods,cross-ThisarticleispartoftheTopicalCollection‘‘Ni-andFe-BasedCross-CouplingReactions’’,editedbyArkaitzCorrea.
