Abstract:Understandinghuman-landrelationshipsisessentialforoptimizinghumanactivitiesinordertoAbstract
achievelocalandglobalsustainability.China’srapidurbanizationisattractingmuchglobalattention;howev-er,oneofthechallengestoachievesustainableurbanizationinChinaistodetermineappropriatedevelopmentmechanismsrelatedtohuman-landrelationships.AsoneofthetypicalindustrialbasesinChina,theTiexiDis-trictinShenyangsufferedfromseriousdeclinebutnowisshiftingitsindustrialstructurefromheavyindustriestotertiaryones,alongwithessentialimprovementofnaturalecosystemsandre-structuringoflanduse.UsingTiexiDistrictasacasestudy,thisarticleinvestigatestheevolutionofthehuman-landrelationshipsinthecon-textofurbanspatialrestructuringbasedonbothqualitativeandquantitativeanalysisoftemporalandspatialel-ements.Followingtheliteraturereview,adatabasewasbuilt,basedoninterpretationsofaerialphotographsofTiexiin2000andoftheQuickbirdImagesin2005and2010,combinedwithasurveyonexistingbuildings.Subsequently,GISwasemployedtoidentifytheevolutionofbothcharacteristicsanddrivingforcesofthehu-man-landrelationshipchangesatbothmicroandmesoscales.Theneweconomicandtechnicaldevelopmentzoneprovidedopportunitiesandresourcesforenterpriseredevelopment,especiallyrelatedtofourstrategies:entire-move-out,partial-move-out,bankruptcyandredevelopmentonoriginalsite.Structuresandfunctionshavechangedmarkedlyduring2000to2010.Forexample,industriallandusewasreducedfrom1486hm2in2000to842hm2in2010whileresidentiallanduseincreasedfrom1077hm2in2000to1452hm2in2010;commercialandserviceindustrieslandincreasedfrom59hm2in2000to110hm2in2010;andlanduseforpublicfacilities,transportandroadsandwelfareremainedalmostthesamelevelcomparedtothatin2000and2010.Inaddition,theper-capitalivingspaceoftheresidentshasgrownfrom6.0m2in2000to28.6m2in2010;and,per-capitagreenlandjumpedto4.15m2whichwasanincreaseof39%comparedto2000.Finally,atotalof5206buildingswereinvestigatedbyafield-survey,andinformationwasobtainedfor3702ofthemre-gardingtheyeartheywerebuilt,andofthelandoccupied,whichwasabout1102hm2.Theresultsshowthatthelandareacoveredbythebuildingsbuiltduring2000-2010,1980-1999and1949-1980isabout743hm2,304hm2and63hm2,respectively.Since2000thelandusedistributionhasshiftedfroma“South-NorthPat-tern”toan“East-WestPattern”whichconfirmsthattheexternalresourcesandpolicytoolshavehadseriousaf-fectsontheevolutionofregionalhuman-landdevelopment.Finally,government,publicandprivatefirmswereidentifiedasthe3mainagentsandinvestigatedtheirrolesandinteractions.
