TheShuikoushanoredistrict,locatedinsouthernHunanProvince,SouthChina,containsPb–Zn–Aumineraliza-tionhostedintheDevoniantoTriassicstrataandMesozoicgranodioriteintrusions.Oremineralsaremainlypyrite,sphalerite,galenaandminormolybdenite.Molybdenite,usuallyintergrownwithpyrite,formedduringPb–Znhydrothermalmineralization.InordertodeterminethepreciseageofPb–Znmineralizationandfurtherunderstandtherelationshipbetweenmagmaemplacementandhydrothermalmineralizationintheoredistrict,molybdeniteRe–OsdatingandzirconSIMSU–Pbdatingwereundertaken.ThezirconU–Pbdatingrevealsthatthegranodioriteintrusionwasemplacedat158.8±1.8Ma(MSWD=0.40).Re–Osisotopicageofsevenmolybdenitesamplesyieldsmodelagesrangingfrom157.5±2.5Mato161.0±2.4Ma,andgivesawell-de?ned187Re–187Osisochronageof157.8±1.4Ma(2σ,MSWD=1.3),indicatingthetimingofPb–Znmineral-izationintheShuikoushanoredistrictatabout158Ma.ThisdatecoincideswellwiththezirconSIMSU–Pbageofthegranodiorite,revealingageneticassociationbetweenthePb–Znmineralizationandthegraniticmagmatism.CombinedwithgeochronologicaldatapublishedforotherPb–Zn–(Cu)depositsinsouthernHunan,itcanbeconcludedthatthegranodiorite-relatedPb–ZnmineralizationthroughoutsouthernHunanmainlyoccurredat160–156Ma,ratherthan180–170Maor170–160Maasconsideredpreviously.ThePb–ZnmineralizationandmajorW–SnmineralizationinsouthernHunanarecoevalandmayberelatedtothesamegeologicalevent.

1.Introduction

MesozoicgranitoidsarewidespreadintheNanlingRange,SouthChina,andaretemporallyandspatiallycloselyrelatedtoPb,Zn,WandSnmineralization.Generallyspeaking,Pb–Zndepositsareusuallyrelatedtosmallgranodioriteintrusions,whereasthoseW–Sndepositsareassociatedwithgraniteplutons(Huaetal.,2003;Maoetal.,2008;Xuetal.,1982,1983).Historically,theW–SnmineralizationandthePb–Znmineralizationrelatedtograniticintrusionsintheareawereconsideredtohaveformedduringtwodifferentmetallogenicsystems(Huaetal.,2003;Maoetal.,2008;Xuetal.,1982,1983).

ExtensiveresearchhasbeenperformedonW–SndepositsandrelatedgraniteplutonsintheNanlingRange(e.g.Hsu,1943;Liu,1980;Lu,1986;Maoetal.,1998;Moetal.,1958;RGNTD,1985;Wangetal.,1987;XuandDing,1938;Zhuetal.,1981).RecentstudieshaveconstrainedthetimingofW–Snmineralizationintheregionthroughprecisegeochronologicalanalyses(e.g.Caietal.,2006;Fengetal.,2011;Fuetal.,2007;Guoetal.,2011;Huetal.,2012;Liuetal.,2008a,2012;Maoetal.,2007;Pengetal.,2006,2007;Qietal.,2012;Wang
